Welcome
to the
Special Congress Representing Involved Bulletin Editors
(S. C. R. I. B. E.)
S.C.R.I.B.E. is an international organization of bulletin editors
of amateur gem, mineral, and earth science societies. S.C.R.I.B.E. exists to:
- improve communication and public relations among gem and mineral
societies, their federations, and other related organizations through involved bulletin editors; and
- advise and assist new editors with old ideas and old editors with
new ideas while giving all editors a share in all ideas for publishing better bulletins.
|
S.C.R.I.B.E. provides many valuable benefits to its members:
- S.C.R.I.B.E. members receive the organization's bulletin,
SCRIBE, periodically throughout the year.
- A Membership/Contact list containing the names, addresses, society
affiliations, and email addresses of bulletin editors worldwide is
provided to each S.C.R.I.B.E. member annually.
- Each year S.C.R.I.B.E. conducts an Editors' Get-Together
in conjunction with one of the seven regional AFMS shows.
- S.C.R.I.B.E. provides a free Bulletin Evaluation Service to its
members.

From Jon (California Federation of Mineralogical Societies Region):

"I can't tell you how much I appreciated all of the support S.C.R.I.B.E. gave to me. The CDs were terrific and helped me get the newsletter out for many years."

From Nancy (Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies):
|
|
"[...] a great resource. I have been an editor for two years and still feel like there is so much to learn and improve upon. I use it every month."

From Betty (Rocky Mountain Federation of Mineralogical Societies):
|
|
"I was a new rockhound editor, knew a little about newsletters but nothing about rockhounding, and S.C.R.I.B.E. was the first organization to which I reached out. Trudy Martin (God bless her!) was more than a wonderful member and friend, she was an outstanding mentor! I learned so much and used the cartoons, tips & hints, and articles to breathe new life into a large newsletter that had gone very stale. As my editor skills morphed to a mineral society format, my knowledge of rockhounding also grew. Thank you, S.C.R.I.B.E., for giving me so much!"

From Richard (California Federation of Mineralogical Societies):

"Twenty years ago, as a person who had never edited a bulletin before, I joined S.C.R.I.B.E. at the recommendation of several other editors in my area. The information, tips, techniques, resources, and personal encouragement that I received—not only from the organization as a whole; but from individual S.C.R.I.B.E. members as well—enabled me to continuously improve the structure and content of my bulletin. Several first place federation awards later, I attribute most of my accomplishments as an editor to the guidance provided to me by S.C.R.I.B.E. and its members."
